When Charles and Judi Stevens purchased Wilmot Orchards in 1975, growing blueberries in that region was considered impossible. But with perseverance and a pioneering spirit, they proved the skeptics wrong. Starting with just an acre and a half in 1979, the family built their way to becoming Ontario’s largest blueberry grower—projected to cover 37 acres by 2024. Their dedication transformed a once unconventional crop for the area into a thriving agricultural success story, rooted in generations of passion and persistence.

A Destination for Families and Food Lovers Alike

What began as a small pick-your-own operation has grown into a bustling seasonal destination, welcoming over 30,000 visitors each summer. With 11 blueberry varieties, Wilmot Orchards caters to evolving customer tastes—from tart early-season berries to the larger, sweeter late-season types now in high demand. Their on-site Appleberries Café, launched in 1994 and expanded over the years, offers homemade baked goods, blueberry ice cream, and specialty products. The café now hosts supper clubs and events featuring Toronto chefs—all centered around the farm’s homegrown fruit.

From introducing falconry bird deterrents to building indoor dining spaces for events, the Stevens family continues to evolve with the times. Even in the face of unpredictable challenges—like the devastating hailstorm that damaged their apple crop in 2023—their focus on diversification has kept them strong. With blueberries at the heart of their growth, Wilmot Orchards continues to thrive as a model of forward-thinking, community-focused farming.
